OK, so maybe calling it a festival is stretching things a bit.

It's not a festival yet, it's not even quite a gala, it's a gig. Welcome to the Halls Gap Comedy Gig. One night of funny which will, if all goes well, grow into a festival over the next few years.

Here's the thing: every year a whole lot of really funny people go to Adelaide for the Adelaide Fringe Festival, and when that finishes, they go to Melbourne for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and guess what? In between they've got about 10 days to kill and most of them drive right past Halls Gap on their way.

So we figured, why not get a few of them to stop off and make us laugh.

This year we've got four international acts, and we're working on getting a couple of local performers to join them (no promises, these things are fluid). They are an eclectic bunch with great reviews from their performances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and on the international comedy circuit.

Next year we'll have more. And the year after that, more still.

All it takes if for the local community to get behind it. Come along, have a few drinks. laugh a bit, and before you know it, Halls Gap will be one of the world's great comedy destinations
